colorFabb varioShore TPU 85A is a foaming TPU filament with variable Shore hardness, reduced weight and a velvety-soft feel. Within the varioShore range, the 85A version is the softer alternative to the original 92A/95A type, offering even greater scope for cushioned, flexible parts.

Foaming rather than simply flexing

The key lies in the print temperature: between 200 and 250 °C, the material begins to expand to around 1.4 to 1.6 times its original volume. This reduces the density to 0.7 to 0.9 g/cm³, giving printed parts an appearance and feel closer to compressed foam than conventional filament. If a denser surface with more grip is preferred, printing at between 190 and 200 °C produces little to no foaming.

Soft enough for direct body contact

The cushioned, flexible surface is well suited to insoles, cosplay padding, grips and shock-absorbing attachments — anywhere comfort and direct contact with the body are important.

One filament, multiple hardness levels

Because print temperature and flow rate directly influence the amount of foaming, a single spool can produce a broad range of hardness levels and part weights without changing materials.
