In 1964, an attractively designed coupé specially developed for young drivers was presented to the public at the New York World's Fair. This sporty and affordable Ford Mustang, the forefather of Pony Cars, was available from April 1964 and in just half a year Ford sold an incredible 680,000 units of it. In 1965, a high-performance street version of the Mustang, the GT 350, built by Carroll Shelby, appeared with a 4.7-litre V8 engine. The car rental company Hertz ordered 1000 copies of the GT 350 H (H stands for Hertz) in black with gold trim, in order to also be able to rent racing cars to customers who quickly found favour with the 306 hp exceptional Mustang.
