Product information & technical details

Manufacturers: E3D
Content: 1 set
Product types: Hot-Ends

A pack of 3 high-temperature non-stick silicone socks for the E3D Volcano and other HotEnds that also use a Volcano-style heating block with thermistor cartridges. They do not fit properly in the older, screwed, clamped Volcano heating block.

These socks keep your heating block clean and free from burnt and blackened plastic. Not only do they keep the block clean, but they also keep the heat in the hot end and away from your print.

These socks are made of a heat-resistant, non-stick coated silicone material that prevents the formation of molten plastic. This really helps with sticky materials like copolyesters and filled composite materials that like to build on nozzles.

These socks also offer a huge increase in temperature stability, especially if you use a fan with a strong airflow around the nozzle to cool the print. The additional cooling combined with the reduced heat radiation from the block to the print improves the ability to print large overhangs and bridges, while the hot end temperature remains extremely stable.

The covers are simply pushed onto the front of the hot end without disassembly and are firmly attached. When it's hot, the silicone expands to the right size and adapts to the hot end. The elastic material fits all nozzle sizes in the range from 0.4 mm to 1.20 mm.

These Volcano socks are available in a pack of 3, as they are durable but do not last forever. Depending on what materials you print and how much you print, they will eventually wear out, although this design has a significantly better life expectancy than the first generation. Even with sticky abrasive filaments, they should easily last over 100 hours of printing. With less sticky materials such as ABS and gentler use, you can achieve an almost infinite lifespan. Their lifespan can vary.

Did you know?

The most popular technology used for 3D printing is FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling). A heated nozzle (hot-end) melts the plastic wire, layering the melted parts.
