Description
The Bambu Lab X2D 3D printer represents the next evolutionary stage of the Bambu Lab X-series, specifically engineered for precision multi-material 3D printing with dedicated support structures. Featuring a dual-extruder system, an actively heated enclosed build chamber, and intelligent sensor technology, the X2D is designed for users aiming to produce high-quality functional components, complex geometries, and clean support interfaces.
Dual-Extruder System with Mechanical Nozzle Switching
At the heart of the system is a dual-nozzle setup featuring a mechanical switching mechanism that operates without an auxiliary motor in the toolhead. Instead, a gear-and-ratchet mechanism handles the nozzle swap, reducing toolhead mass and minimising vibrations at high speeds.
The combination of two extrusion systems is specially designed for maximum efficiency:
- Direct Drive (left nozzle): Short filament path for precision model printing.
- Bowden (right nozzle): Optimised for support materials.
This architecture enables simultaneous printing of model and support using different materials, resulting in superior surface finishes and cleanly removable supports. Furthermore, the X2D's dual-extrusion system significantly reduces overall filament waste.
Tip: The Bambu Lab X2D supports all common support material combinations. For example, PLA can be combined with PETG or PVA supports, while PETG can be used with PLA, or TPU with PLA. For technical materials such as PA6-CF or PET-CF, ABS or ASA can be utilised as support materials.
Dynamic Flow Calibration for Consistent Print Quality
The Bambu Lab X2D automatically manages key calibration and monitoring processes (extruder, hotend, nozzle, and filament). Before every print, the system performs a self-calibration and monitors the entire process via a vast array of sensors. A high-precision proprietary PMSM motor captures 20,000 data points per second, allowing it to detect deviations and potential clogs early on. If potential errors are identified, the printing process is paused before quality issues can occur.
Heated Build Chamber for Technical Materials
The fully enclosed design with active chamber heating up to 65 °C enables reliable printing of engineering-grade materials such as ABS, ASA, or Nylon, while "Cool Mode" provides optimal conditions for PLA and standard filaments. With a maximum nozzle temperature of up to 300 °C, the X2D covers a broad spectrum of materials.
Two thermal modes for the build chamber:
- Cool Mode: Active cooling via external airflow for heat dissipation; optimal for standard materials such as PLA and PETG.
- Heat Mode: Actively heated build chamber up to 65 °C with nozzle temperatures up to 300 °C; suitable for technical materials such as ABS, ASA, or Nylon.
Precision, Stability, and Quiet Operation
Up to 31 integrated sensors ensure that the entire printing process is monitored - from material flow and temperature to safety-critical parameters.
*The Vision Encoder is available separately as an option. This monitors belt tension and mechanical deviations continuously and compensates for them in real-time. This maintains a motion accuracy of up to 50 µm across the entire build volume.
Optimised for Professional Support Workflows
The X2D is specifically designed for model-and-support combinations. While traditional dual-material printing is possible, the system architecture reaches its full potential when combining materials for printing the model with dedicated support materials.
