Description

The bq Hephestos 2 is the second DIY printer by bq. The Prusa i3 Hephestos is based on Prusa i3, one of the most popular models in the world.
The Hephestos 2 is an advancement from the Hephestos in that it offers some exciting new features.

The print volume was increased to 210 x 297 x 220 mm and is thus even greater than that of the bq Witbox.

The Structure

The Hephestos 2 is a very stable printer. The plastic parts have been replaced with metal parts, making use of aluminium and steel for a more robust frame.
The new 3D printers by bq has three contact points and one retractable leg on the Z-axis.

The Assembly

BQ has aimed to design a printer that is ready to print in less than 2 hours, and this goal was reached with the Hephestos 2. Improved packaging and a reduction of additional assembly elements has significantly results in less time needed to assemble when compared to the Hephestos.

Printing

The newly developed extruder and his double allows the Hephestos 2 to produce 3D models from most filaments such as PLA, wood or even metallic filaments.
The Hephestos 2 is able to print flexible materials such as FilaFlex thank to the new extruder.

Leveling

The inductive sensor is responsible for the precise distance of the bed in order to produce the perfect model. The magnetic field of the inductive sensor recognizes the distance from the bed and notifies the user of the correct position through the signalling of a red light. The bed can be levelled manually.

This distance can also be calculated automatically. The sensor measures the distance of the bed and adapts the movements of the printer automatically.

The Electronics

The components of the main electronics are integrated on a single board, with new functionality and a micro - USB port. The user interface of the new graphic LCD has been developed further to improve the user experience for easier handling.

100% Open Source

The Hephestos 2 as well as the firmware of the device are 100% free and can be further developed by anyone.
