Description

Volcano PLA is an industrial PLA designed for professional applications.
The material is characterized by high heat resistance and mechanical properties similar to ABS.

Volcano PLA offers the same mechanical and thermal properties (after heat treatment) as most ABS filaments but with the biodegradability of PLA.

Heat Treatment

The heat treatment is a secondary process, in which a plastic part is heated up to half the melting temperature for a certain time.

When the plastic part has been treated with heat in such a fashion, the material relaxes and internal stresses are relieved. This results in improved dimensional stability and better physical and thermal properties of the printed material.

Step 1:

Preheat a convection oven at 110 ° C. It is recommended to use a thermostat to set the exact temperature.
It is very important to preheat the oven at this temperature as this will reduce the shrinkage.

Step 2:

If the oven has a stable temperature of 110 ° C, quickly place your 3D printed model , printed with Volcano PLA, in the oven. Be sure to do this as soon as possible to avoid a loss of heat.
Do not remove any support structure from the model before placing it in the oven. It is recommended to place the model on a flat sheet of metal or aluminum to ensure an even heat transfer.

Small objects - 20 minutes timer
For small objects with thin walls and medium fillings, it will take ± 20 minutes.

Large objects - 60 minutes timer
For large objects with thick walls and high filling, it will take ± 60 minutes.

Step 3:

If the object has been heated below the above-mentioned duration, turn off the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature.
Do not remove the object until the oven has cooled down completely.

Step 4:

When the oven is completely cooled, remove the model from the oven. You can now remove the support structure from the model.

Your model has now undergone heat treatment and has all the mechanical and thermal properties as in the technical data sheet. (TDS)
