Simultaneous use of two materials

The module enables dual extrusion and working with two different materials at the same time - you can combine PLA and TPU, for example. Especially when support structures are needed, the Dual Extrusion Module comes in handy. For this, the module works excellently with water-soluble PVA filament and leaves high-quality prints. The same applies to HIPS in combination with breakable PLA - you can use a little oil for easier removal, but this is not absolutely necessary.

Multicoloured print

Most 3D models are printed in one colour, but they are brought to life by different properties of the filaments such as gloss, transparency, glitter or similar. With the Dual Extrusion Module you can now take your creativity to a new level and print in multiple colours! This will create more depth, movement and of course uniqueness!

Heater blocks quickly exchanged

The practical heating blocks are child's play and can be quickly replaced in just 5 seconds. This means that technical materials such as PA-CF and PA-GF can also be used.

The Luban software recognises the heater block and sets all parameters automatically.

A combination of a stepper motor, planetary gear and dual drive gears

The unique combination of a stepper motor, planetary gear and dual drive gears on each hotend ensures a smooth extrusion with a flow rate of 20 mm³/s. The mix ensures incredible quality!

The so-called planetary gear uses a gear ratio of 7.5:1, which allows it to transfer the power from the stepper motor with much higher torque. For this reason, Snapmaker also uses smaller motors for the module in order to achieve the required pulling force. The gearbox is relatively light, which contributes to the fact that there is less vibration of the tool head with the same acceleration. Thus, print quality and precision remain the same as with a single extrusion module.

The 68-tooth gears have a diameter of 12mm, which gives them ample contact area with the filament. By applying the force evenly, exactly the right amount of filament comes out of the nozzle - neither too much nor too little.

4-fan cooling system

Filament residues on a clogged nozzle are horrific! This problem should be solved with the Dual Extrusion Module since each hotend is equipped with its own special fan. The fan ensures that the filament does not melt too early in the heatsink and thus clog the hotend.

In addition to the hotend fans, the module has two more fans (left and right) for cooling the prints.

Switching hotends with a motor

Switching from one hotend to another is typically a fairly time-consuming process on dual extrusion printers. Especially when you consider that there are two hotends on one tool head! The Snapmaker module comes in handy here as it features an electronically controlled 3s-Hotend-Switch. This switches with a motor, as follows: If the G-code tells you that the hotend needs to be changed, the motor asks the linear rail to do the heavy lifting. The hotend is changed and the print resumes within 3 seconds - with a repeatability of 0.012 mm.

Compatible with different nozzle sizes

You can make printing even faster and better by individually setting the parameters for each of the nozzle sizes in Luban.

You can print a shell like this:

  • Heater block 1 for low speed with a 0.2mm nozzle for more stability and better quality,
  • Heater Block 2 for high speed with a 0.6 or 0.8mm nozzle for ample support.

Automatic levelling

You can forget about the calibration card. On the heating bed, the module has a proximity sensor that collects data for each individual point. These are then automatically processed by the control unit.

An optoelectronic switch calibrates the Z height.

Recovery of print after power failure and filament run-out sensor

Recovery from a power outage is automatic - all you have to do is follow the steps on the touchscreen! You don't have to worry about losing the printing progress or other data.

A practical filament run-out sensor detects when a filament runs out or fails. When printing with only one nozzle, the active nozzle is stopped, the non-active nozzle does not interrupt the device. When printing with both nozzles, the device switches off as soon as it detects an expiring filament.
